Many of you know Coach Rodriguez from his work in the classroom at BLR, and he is going to be our Defensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach. Coach Rodriguez grew up in Los Angeles, California, and played football, basketball, and baseball at Bell High School. After high school, he attended East Los Angeles Community College, where he played linebacker for the Huskies legendary coach Al Padilla. In 2000, he married his best friend and the love of his life Brandy, and they moved to the Waco area in 2003. Three years later, Coach Rodriguez enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Cavalry Scout and served for fifteen years, including four tours overseas. Coach Rodriguez has been mentored by some great coaches including Pepper Matanga (PAC 12, CFL, AFL), Willy Brown (Raiders), and Joe Kapp (Vikings). He’s also had the opportunity to work with some incredible athletes at the college level including five- and four-star athletes at the UC Berkely football camp and helped develop players’ skills to get them to the next level. With his guidance players like Nate Turner WR (UNLV, San Diego Charges) and Damien Marzett FS (Cal Berkley, Miami Dolphins) have gone on to play for top college teams and even the NFL.
