Bishop Reicher believes that the teacher-student relationship is paramount to the teaching and learning process. Therefore, a balanced approach between the traditional Catholic model of education and current technology use to enhance instruction is at the core of the philosophy.
Students in PreK-4 through 6th Grade have computer class once a week. PreK-4 through 3rd grade has a 30 minute class time. 4th grade through 6th grade has a 45 minute class time. PreK-4 through 3rd grade will work on age-appropriate software. 4th grade through 6th-grade work on their keyboarding using Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, and work on age-appropriate software and computer projects integrated into the core curriculum.
Beginning with intermediate school, students use Google Classroom. Google Classroom integrates Google Apps for Education with all Google Apps services, including Google Docs, Gmail, and Google Calendar. Google Classroom saves time and paper and makes it easy to create classes, distribute assignments, communicate, and stay organized. Classroom lets students communicate with teachers and easily share assignments, materials, and messages. Teachers can quickly see who has or hasn’t completed the work and provide direct, real-time feedback and grades right in the Classroom.
The 7th grade takes a required Computer Literacy Elective for one semester. In that class, students will cover computer basic terminology, history of computers, and the binary system, Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint. If time allows, a Movie Maker project will be created by students.
Through technical training, problem-solving, and teamwork, the high school technology department's goal is to teach students how to use various technologies, adapt to emerging technologies, and be prepared and equipped to confront the challenges they will face in the 21st century.
